Bedong Fishing Village

I have just revisited one of the best places for fishing last weekend.

Bedong Fishing Village is special.

The road going there does not exist on Google map, there are no directions, signs or a billboard for the place, hell... even the main entrance is blocked with a big steel gate and you would need to call the owner to unlock the gate to get in.

But the amazing thing is that the place has been improving ever since the first time I visited them. I believe business has been well and the owner of the place really a innovative businessman by improving the place bit by bit. From toilets to accommodation rooms, fishing areas, barbecue pits and many others.

Well, the most important thing about fishing is not just about the fishing spot, but it is also about catching the actual fish. Many nice places I have been have really nice amenities nut sadly there were just no action. I understand from the owner and the other anglers there that there are siakaps, jenahak, kerapu, milk fish in the ponds. With using kembong and live prawns, my visit there per day will land me at least 10 fish. Most anglers there uses baits and some are fly fishers. However there are rapala and plastic lure casters as well but I think their catch rate is much lower.

Here is the way to get there. The direction starts from the tol plaza right after you exited the PLUS highway at Sungai Petani (Utara).

Then the first traffic light you see turn right here.

Then, drive all the way straight for about 5 minutes until you see a sign that says turn left into Merbok.

Drive straight for a short distance until you reach a T junction below, then you turn left here.

Then drive all the way straight for about 5 minutes. You will pass by a school on your left. Then you will see a small road just right after a big TNB power plant. This road is not shown in Google map today.

This is how the road looks like. Just drive all the way straight, you will pass by an estate settlement. Watch out for goat poo on the road.

After a short distance, the dirt road starts. I do not recommend you to drive a nice car here. Drive straight.

On the dirt road, turn left once you see a junction.

Right after the turn, you will see a small TNB power station like the picture below. Turn right left then go straight for about 200 meter, then you will see a gate.

This is how the gate looks like. You will need to call the operator to get the door opened.

The the gate is opened for you to see a friendly face.

Drive all the way straight you will see the fishing village.

Here are the directions on Google map.

Some scenic pictures of the place.

And that's me with my catch. There were many other fish but I was lazy to take all of them.

Many improvements have been done to the place by the owner. Below are pictures of before and after of the toilet. This is before (you do not want to know how is it inside. Trust me, its not pretty.)

Now, much better.

You may call the operator 012-423 9951. Prices are very reasonable. Call in advance to avoid disappointments (Singaporeans comes by the bus loads sometimes and book the whole freaking place up for few days).
